The Guest House by Jelaluddin Rumi

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
 and invite them in.

 Be grateful for whoever comes,
 because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

My brother sent me this piece 6 months ago and I have read it everyday since.  I strive to live my life by this.  Read it daily.  Revisit it. Remind myself of all the powerful wisdom it suggests.   Adventurers embrace whatever comes their way.  We embrace pain because it means ecstasy is near.    For the first time in my life, I've truly learned to welcome pain, I've seen its positive repercussions.  I still struggle with the idea of ultimately being "alone", but I'm working to understand the idea of having visitors.  Some visitors stay longer than others, some we will love, and some will hurt us but we must treat each guest honorably.
